Happy Birthday, A Writer’s Blog!!!

In November 2011, I got over my fear of no one would want to hear what I had to say. On the 17th of November, I wrote my first blog post called “Creative Writing for Beginners.” Years later and I’m still going strong 🙂

Happy Birthday, A Writer’s Blog!!! May there be many more.

I Had So Much Fun At My Book Signing Today!

I have bad news and good news…

The bad news–I’m too busy and can’t participate in the 24 Hours Comic Challenge today. I had such a blast doing it last year. In the spirit of the fun artist’s challenge, maybe I’ll draw my comic tomorrow.

The good news–The YA author, Teri Polen, has featured me on her blog today. Check out my author interview by clicking here!

And, drum roll please…13 local authors and I had a book signing today at the Hedgesville Public Library!!! Not only did they feed us breakfast and lunch and provide us with free tables, Dana and the other lovely librarians bought each book from all of the authors. My 3 books will be on the shelves of their library! I’m so grateful.

I met wonderful people and managed to sell some books. I’m so shy that I’m surprised I could talk to people lol. Wendy was my first sale with Twisted Obsession. After talking to her about suspense novels, I felt more at ease. I was very excited to see Kathy. We were local writing buddies back in 2013 when I was first starting out. It was cool reminiscing with her. She was my critique partner for Something’s Amiss (you can thank her for the steamy love scene at the beginning of the book). I hope she likes the way I finished the novella.

I want to thank Kiel, my mom, and dad for coming to visit. I really appreciated the support. All in all, I sold 8 books. I’m proud of myself for coming out of my shell. I really enjoyed talking to Dani who is an aspiring writer. And, Allee was a delight to see. She’s a local poet still in high school! I hope in the near future I can buy their books 🙂

Today was my 3rd book signing. Here’s a flashback to my 1st one in Harpers Ferry:

Patting Myself On the Back. I Acted Like A Professional Writer Today

Lately, I’ve been submitting short stories to magazines and anthologies. Lars’s Muse is one of my favorites. I’ve been submitting this flash fiction piece off and on since 2015 after it didn’t become a finalist for the contest The Cult of Me.

This month, I submitted Lars’s Muse to Horror Tree’s Trembling With Fear. Horror Tree is a great resource for writers looking for dark-themed places to submit to. Recently, the founder Stuart Conover decided to open up submissions to create a reading section for the site. New short stories are posted every Sunday.

Luckily, I heard from Stuart a couple days ago. Who knew a rejection could be rewarding? No sarcasm, I promise. I appreciated that he took the time to offer me suggestions to improve my story. Not only that but he gave me a chance to resubmit Lars’s Muse!

So instead of sulking over a rejection, I embraced it. I revised my story and resubmitted to Trembling With Fear. I’m very proud of myself for showing vulnerability by sharing my work and acting like a professional by listening to constructive criticism.

Maybe the 4th time will be Lars’s Muse lucky charm? I hope so. If not, then I’ll look for another place to send it.

And the Winners Are…!!!

The International Authors’ Day Blog Hop 2016 just ended. We were asked to do a giveaway to help celebrate books. Mine consisted of asking readers to reveal the craziest thing an ex did to try and convince you not to break up with him or her.

The lucky winners of my suspense ebook, Twisted Obsession, are:

CATHY BROCKMAN and PURBA CHAKRABORTY!!!!!!!

Crazy is an understatement when it comes to Miki. You’ll see when you read the book.

Please email me at author.yawatta.hosby(AT)gmail(DOT)com or leave me a comment on this blog post with the desired format (PDF or kindle gift from Amazon). If you leave a comment on this blog post, please make sure to also leave your email address.

TWISTED OBSESSION Available On Amazon!!!!

I’ve been doing the happy dance since Monday. Why? Because my new book is finally here!

28704404

Baby or no baby, Finia’s determined to live life her way.

Too bad that doesn’t fit Miki’s version of a happy ending. He owns her. No leeway. If she fights back, then he’ll make her regret it.

Miki will get his perfect family by any means necessary.

Here’s an excerpt for TWISTED OBSESSION:

He scratched his head, keeping steady eye contact. “What do you want me to say?”

“The truth, Miki.”

“I didn’t. I wouldn’t.”

Finia shook her head and wiped a tear from her eye. “Goodbye.” She began walking again.

“Wait!” He dashed in front of her, blocking the way. He kept his hands in his pockets to ensure he wouldn’t touch her. “Now isn’t the time to talk about this. Can we wait until I take you home?”

“Why? So you can come up with a lie?”

Miki frowned. “This is a happy moment for us, don’t you see? We’re having a baby. We should be celebrating. Not fighting. We should be calling our families with the good news.” He dug his phone out of his pocket and smiled. “Come on, let’s call your dad first. He always wanted to be a grandfather.”

She folded her arms across her chest. “There’s nothing to celebrate.”

“You don’t mean that. Take it back.”

Silence.

“Finia, don’t talk like that. Don’t say our family isn’t worth celebrating,” he whispered.

“Family doesn’t do what you did.”

“I didn’t do anything.”

“Your lies are why I’m leaving.”

This wasn’t the last of it. Now that Finia was carrying his baby, they would be together forever, whether she liked it or not.

—If dark, twisted, and creepy stories are up your alley, then give TWISTED OBSESSION a chance to scare ya. It’s available on Amazon, or if you’d be willing to give an honest review, then I can give you a free copy.

I’m Honored That My Book Was Chosen For The MHS Creative Writing Club!!!

I’m a firm believer that writers should help other writers. I followed my dream later in life, wishing I would have started earlier, so I love hearing when teenagers say they want to become authors. I like to support whenever I can. For Christmas, I gave a bright young girl a writer’s kit (a notebook, a writer reference book) and a One By One paperback.

I’m thrilled to have met Hailey, my coworker’s daughter. I can’t wait to see one of her novels published in the future. 🙂

She enjoyed my book so much, that she nominated One By One for the MHS Creative Writing Club. With the approval of the teacher, they voted on books. Mine won!

I’m very honored. My dreams of an author are coming true–having a short story in an anthology and having a book club discuss my books.

This news was definitely a pleasant surprise! I haven’t stopped smiling all day.

2015 In Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 43,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 16 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
