#8Sunday Weekend Writing Warriors Excerpt #43

The Weekend Writing Warriors is an awesome site that allows writers to share their 8 to 10 sentence excerpts, published or unpublished, to the blogosphere. If you’d like to join or would like to read wonderful talent, please visit the WeWriWa website on Sunday, 4/5 http://wewriwa.blogspot.com.

This week I’ll be sharing my urban legends WIP. A serial killer murders college students, one by one, based off famous urban legends. To not leave you guys hanging on what eventually happens to Savannah’s dead body, I’m skipping ahead to later chapters. Spoiler alert—it involves another creepy urban legend.

Here’s my excerpt:

Sweeney Todd checked his watch. He was standing on the steps of the Summit dorm hall. It was pitch dark outside: no moon, no stars, no street lamps. Independence University didn’t provide any street lamps on campus this late at night. It was 3am. Sweeney Todd suppressed a yawn.

With his Apple Watch, he hacked into the dorm office and turned off the recording of the surveillance cameras that hung in every hallway on each floor. A black screen would alert night staff, so instead of completely shutting down the system, Sweeney Todd simply rewound the footage. It was on a loop to re-record the footage from last night.

Satisfied he got the job done successfully, he carried the heavy duffel bag over his shoulder and walked into the building.

Keep smiling,

    • Thanks, Charmaine. That means a lot. I was nervous that this story wouldn’t be scary enough but so far so good on my beta readers end.

      Keep smiling,

    • Hey, Jessica. I think you possibly already know. Spoiler alert—this new chapter links up with what’s happened in the past…

      Keep smiling,

    • Hey, Veronica, yeah he’s already got everything planned out. It’s quite scary how he doesn’t think he’s doing anything wrong.

      Keep smiling,
